As an advisor, executive, investor, and board member
I’ve been a startup guy all my life. My dad decided to be his own boss almost immediately after he got into the real world and started multiple companies during his lifetime. I came of age in the burgeoning tech startup world of the nineties and never looked back.
Back when I was getting started I had a million great ideas – and realized quickly I had no idea how to make them happen. Twenty-five years later I have an MBA from the best entrepreneurial business school in the country and dozens of startup experiences under my belt: one IPO, several sales, and plenty of crash-and-burns. And I learned more from the crash-and-burns than from the rest.
I tried working for big companies. I tried sitting on a beach. I can’t do it.
The world needs more entrepreneurs
The world needs more successful founders. We’re the ones whose sole purpose is to solve other people’s problems in a way that’s mutually beneficial and economically sustainable. Without us, the unbelievable changes happening all around us won’t be leveraged to benefit actual people.
Startups might just be one of the last places on earth where how well you do is a function of how well you make someone’s life better, and not who you know or where you were born.

Why I created Founder School
When I was starting my companies I had a million great ideas. And no idea where to start.
I read books, I went to school, I watched every movie about startups I could find. I wish I had Founder School.
I still tinker with my own great ideas, but these days nothing makes me happier than working with a founder to make their idea real.
As a founder, co-founder, executive, advisor, and investor, I’ve been working at early-stage and growth companies my whole life. I spent years studying them at one of the finest non-equity accelerators in the world. I looked at the data on thousands of startups and entrepreneurs and saw the same patterns over and over. I learned a ton of lessons.
I watch founders get chewed up and spit out all the time. And it’s almost always because of avoidable mistakes. But how would you know that if you’ve never done it before?
